Tofino to see first national surf champ

This year's Rip Curl Pro will see surfers competing for the honour of becoming Canada's first national surfing champions.

The Canadian Surfing Association (CSA) has officially sanctioned the event as the Canadian Surfing Championship, meaning the waves of Tofino will become cemented in Canadian surfing history.

"The talent level is definitely there and it's about time we crown a Canadian national champion," CSA president Dom Domic tells the Westerly News.
